About

What is Rimfire and Air Rifle Bench Rest Shooting about?

There is not a lot of info published about rimfire and air rifle bench rest shooting available in South Africa. None of the clubs/provinces has its own website to assist new comers on what where and when. SAPSSF is represented in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Freestate, South Gauteng and North Gauteng, if you need any contact details of a club/province in your area you can send me a mail to erikd50@icloud.com and will send you the relevant contact details. If you have any other questions also feel free to send me a mail and will try to assist.

Here I will share some info on the basic rules and specs of the classes we shoot. Lets start with the basics:

  1. A match will consist of each competitor shooting a target, AR LV, AR HV, RF IS, RF LV or RF HV. As sharing of equipment is allowed there will in most competitions be 2 or more relays per match.
  2. A relay is 20 minutes. This means you have 20 minutes to complete your target, no shots will be allowed after the cease fire command. By firing a shot after the cease fire command will result in immediate disqualification.
  3. Each target has 25 scoring diagrams. You need to shoot ONE (1) shot per diagram, if you shoot more than 1 per diagram the lowest score minus 1 point will be recorded as your score for that diagram.
For the complete rule book please visit the WRABF web page.

SCORING OF TARGETS
At all SAPSSF events (and most WRABF member countries) use TrueScore, as South African developed program that scores the targets electronically. After the relay is scanned to a .jpg file and is then processed by the program to deliver quick and accurate scores. After the scoring process is done scoring stickers is printed with a score for each diagram which is then pasted onto the target.

  1. Good day Erik
Me and my daughter (13) are interested in joining a club to start shooting. I went to Krokodilspruit range on Saturday and enjoyed it to learn more about the sport. I have no equipment and it seems as if it is very very expensive to start competing. Do you have any advice for me?
    Regards
    Stephan
